Job description

Professional Services Technical Lead

Lead the technical delivery of Professional Services for Landmark’s SME customers while remaining a hands-on engineer responsible for the discovery, design, scoping, implementation and handover of complex projects. The role combines individual project ownership with day-to-day technical direction, quality and development of a small team.

This is not a service desk management role or a purely managerial appointment. The successful candidate must already be a credible customer-facing project engineer or technical consultant, with the potential to develop as a people leader. Previous formal line-management experience is not required.

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities

Hands-on project delivery

  • Personally own and deliver customer projects from discovery and assessment through technical design, scope, implementation, testing, documentation and handover.

  • Design and deliver Microsoft 365 migrations, Entra ID, Intune and Microsoft 365 security implementations

  • Design, plan and implement Azure server/infrastructure migrations and on-premise or hybrid modernisation projects.

  • Design and deploy secure Windows Server, Active Directory, firewall, switching, wireless, VLAN, VPN and connectivity solutions.

  • Assess, design and implement backup, recovery, resilience and Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (BCDR) solutions.

  • Identify project dependencies, risks, implementation effort and resource needs; ensure clean transition into Managed Services

Cybersecurity delivery

  • Implement practical security controls across Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, endpoints, networks and on-premise infrastructure.

  • Configure and integrate appropriate Managed Detection & Response (MDR) solutions and work with SIEM/SOC providers on findings, alerts and remediation.

  • Conduct proportionate internal and external security/vulnerability assessments for SME environments; engage specialist testers where needed.

  • Draft and improve pragmatic customer cybersecurity policies and procedures, and prioritise security improvements.

Lead the Professional Services team

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership, coaching, quality review and escalation support for a small team of up to two engineers.

  • Coordinate technical work across run-rate installations and more complex Professional Services projects, ensuring appropriate engineering ownership and consistent standards.

  • Review solution designs, project plans, documentation and handovers; promote repeatable implementation methods and lessons learned.

  • Work with the Operations Manager on project priorities, engineer capacity, delivery risks and performance; raise resource constraints early.

  • Help develop engineers’ skills and readiness to take on more complex work; contribute to recruitment and technical assessment when needed.

Customer engagement, pre-sales & solution development

  • Lead technical discovery with SME customers and translate business needs, risks and budgets into appropriate solutions.

  • Support sales and account management with technical proposals, scopes of work, estimates and customer presentations.

  • Build customer confidence through clear communication, ownership and practical recommendations.

  • Contribute to Landmark’s technical standards, preferred solutions, vendor evaluation and future managed service offerings in collaboration with the Operations Manager and senior leadership.

Person specification

Essential – evidence required

  • Proven hands-on customer project delivery, including meaningful personal responsibility for technical design/scoping AND implementation; support-only experience is insufficient.

  • Ability to describe completed projects, personal decisions, technical challenges, customer communication and measurable outcomes.

  • Strong Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server/Active Directory and hybrid infrastructure foundation.

  • Experience implementing cloud, server, network or security projects, with sound Azure knowledge and relevant migration experience.

  • Practical networking/firewall knowledge and an understanding of SME cybersecurity, backup and BCDR.

  • Credibility with customers, clear written documentation and ability to contribute to discovery, estimates and pre-sales.

  • Evidence of taking ownership, guiding colleagues, reviewing work or informally mentoring others; readiness to lead a small team.

Desirable/can develop

  • Broader Azure architecture and complex migrations; advanced BCDR solution design.

  • Hands-on MDR integration, SIEM/SOC collaboration, security testing and cyber policy development.

  • Formal project or team leadership, mentoring, technical standards ownership and vendor/solution portfolio evaluation.

  • MSP or multi-customer Professional Services experience and relevant Microsoft/network/security certifications.

What success looks like

  • Complex customer projects are delivered with sound design, clear scope, strong documentation and effective handover.

  • Run-rate and complex project work is technically coordinated without losing hands-on delivery capacity.

  • Engineers receive practical guidance, quality standards improve and customer confidence is maintained.

  • The Operations Manager has clear visibility of delivery risks, resource needs and technical priorities.

Accountability and progression

The role reports to the Operations Manager, who retains overall operational planning, service delivery and budget accountability. This role owns technical quality and leadership within Professional Services, while personally delivering significant project work. With demonstrated success and

business growth, there may be progression to broader Professional Services leadership.
